The Rolling Stones, sentiments

I'm a Beatles girl at heart, but I love the edge that the Rolling Stones sported so well. The Beatles were always so damn sweet!

I'm feeling the Stones today.

  1. The Stones were definitely hyped as the antithesis of the Beatles - a darker vision if you will, but Mick has said that in truth both bands were equally cynical. Also members of both bands were friendly with each other, Keith and John were best mates. The Beatles did open up the doors for the Stones (and many other UK bands)- the Stones then proceeded to knock down the walls. I love both bands and especially the aura of danger that hung around the Stones - some of that danger was justified.

Truly though, both bands were damn sweet and the fact that both bands were around at the same time seems to make the 1960s that extra special.

  2. I know what you mean. I made a point last year to watch all of the Stones' films. Your comment made me immediately think of 'Gimme Shelter.'

For the Beatles, John definitely gave that band some serious edge.

'60s trademark sweet sound. Right up there with the Zombies. It's funny even listening to a band like the Music Machine, which is regarded as garage rock, isn't really so edgy.

The shift from sweet '60s to more complex bold tunes is really interesting to note.
