Damien Rice- "9"

This album is on the brink of perfection. There is no aspect of it that is weak or undefined. The differences between this album and his 2002 release of "O" is that Lisa Hannigan has a more significant vocal involvement and the CD is more diverse in every aspect imaginable.

Initally, I didn't like this CD, it wasn't like "O" by any means. I only enjoyed the first track, titled, "9 Crimes" because it sounded the most like "O". Although, eventually it became a frequently played CD on my Itunes.

The stand out track is easily--"Rootless Tree," because it is so different from Damien Rice's other tunes, lyrically, well one lyric in particular. He screams, "Fuck You" three times in each chorus. Despite the song's crass lyrics, he delivers them in a sweet, beautiful way. This song has drive, it's moving, unlike most of his slow ballad-esq tunes and it's been written in such a way it can be brought down to an intimate solo session.

Another outstanding tune is "Dogs," where he sings of a girl that lives with an orange tree and a girl that does yoga. Cute lyrics get this guy far---he knows how to write them that's for sure. If you actually listen to this song, wait until the bridge, the whole... "Annnnnnd she's always dressed in white" bit. That part gets me everytime! It's sooo simple and so brilliant.

This CD is fantastic, but what i hate that Damien Rice so often does is his lack of album artwork and features. I really dig the obscure art he always has, Roald Dalh type pictures that are soo simliar to the hideous, scratchy artwork of the childrens novel, "The Twits" (A underrated Must-Read!). Anyways, to my point, he never once has included a booklet or a lyric insert, and he never uses regular cases, he should at least put the stomp in... I'm a little intense but little things count too.

Buy this CD, practically every track is brilliant.
