James Morrison at the Mod Club; Thursday April 4, 2007

James Morrison at the Mod Club; Thursday April 4, 2007. 6/10

James Morrison is another carbon copy of any twenty-something year-old guy with a guitar strapped to his chest. Nothing special... However he is really great live, which i can't say for all the others. It was an awful start to the show for a number of reasons: we were late, we had to buy expensive scalper tickets (well $27) and it turns out that two of the three tickets were already used...! But because of the kindness of people who GAVE their extra tickets to us we could see him! I find most of James Morrison's recorded music is laced with really cheesy R&B music with a combination of a piano and the odd harmonica. Nothing special. This live show he stipped his songs down into an acousitc guitar and keyboard combination. It worked well... but i'm really interested in hearing his stuff with a full band. He's from England, his accent is ridiculously hard to understand which made it difficult to understand the small chit-chat he was saying between the set!I really can't say much about this show because he played such a short set. He played perhaps ten songs in total, with an encore of only one--really slow song that wasn't even a hit. I think he had very many let down fans (which were primarily of a Nineteen Plus crowd, hard to believe..!) and left the crowd in question of what was on next, when in actual fact the show was over. This was partially the Mod Club's fault because they did not turn on the house lights.I would see him again, however it would have to be at a small venue like this, and much cheaper tickets.
