Sondre Lerche- Phantom Punch

This album first off is significantly more 'rock' than his other albums. I put that in quotation because i don't want you to go think he's anything like what most people consider rock, by the likes of mainstream rockers-- Nickelback, AC/DC, in other words garbage, okay so that's my personal bias. However, Sondre Lerche is none of that by any means. He's Norwegian, talented, attractive and twenty four! but unfortunately married! He released his first album in 2002 at the age of nineteen! (I'm nineteen and what the hell am i doing, not much) That album was Faces Down, a solid release. He followed it up with or before i'm not sure with the Don't Be Shallow EP which i think is amazing beyond comprehension, it's so raw and stripped down, the way he should be. GO BUY OR DOWNLOAD IT.Phantom punch is innovative instrumentally, with the creativity of his band Faces Down. Quick up beat music on the first track "Airport Taxi Reception", sounds very much like something one would hear on an older album. This album has too many hooks and loops i find, the stuff that sticks in your head, songs, "Phantom Punch", "The Tape" and "Face the Blood" all have guitar licks that are likely to haunt up on you the next day, personally that drives me nuts, in a bad way. Lerche has managed to maintain his acousitic sound in "Tragic Mirror", "She's Fantastic", "After All" and "Say It All". These tracks will be favourites very soon. As an artist he uses clever lyrics that are innovative and cute, that will likely make girls swoon. In "After All" he sings:"I like you too much, after too little time. i hold back my heart's crazy rambling. fear that i should overwhelm your smile, frightens the spiders inside me, ohh this should be magic after all" cute. cute. cute. but not corny, which he maintains extremely well. I think you could easily set that to Backstreet Boys music and turn it into an awful pop sound. But Sondre Lerche has actual musical talent that can prevent that from happening. This album strays away from his previous release called "Duper Sessoins" which has a very Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble sound. Very jazz and very slick, crooner! His musical diversity is mindblowing and all his material should be listened to because everyone could dig this, and easily at that. This CD is definately worth checking out, and more importantly he's coming! April 2 to the Mod Club. See this show, it'll be stunning i know it!

Download: After All, Tragic Mirror and older stuff: You Know So Well, Night and Day (Cole Porter cover), Two Way Monologue.
